NME RADIO TAKES GOLD AT SONY

NME Radio scooped the gold prize last night when it was recognised with a Sony Radio Academy Award – the UK’s most prestigious radio accolade.

The station picked up the gold award in the Best use of Branded Content category for Skins Radio – a dedicated weekday show presented by NME Radio’s James Theaker and the cast of Skins, which celebrated the third series of the popular E4 show. The fortnight of evening shows impressed the judges with its “groundbreaking concept and extremely fresh approach and sound.”

The gold, silver and bronze winners of the 28th annual Sony Radio Academy Awards were announced at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, hosted by Chris Evans. The event – a vivid reflection of the strength and depth of the UK radio industry – was also webcast live.

Sammy Jacob, NME Radio managing and programming director says: "Winning this Sony Award is much appreciated. It was a joy working with the guys from Skins and E4. Full credit to Matt Priest, our head of Live and Sponsorship, who really made this happen, bringing everyone together including the various performing artists and other NME platforms, NME.COM and magazine, where the content was also delivered in visual form. This was a perfect example of what can be achieved when exciting complimentary brands work in concert on a variety of media supported by live activities."

About Sony Radio Academy Awards
By their very nature, award ceremonies come and go, but for the last twenty-eight years, the Sony Radio Academy Awards have stood the test of time and sought to recognise the very best of the UK radio industry, nationally, regionally and locally. The first ceremony took place in 1983. Among the first Gold winners were Terry Wogan and Sue MacGregor, Radio Clyde’s Richard Park and Radio City’s Clive Tyldesley.

Each year, entries are submitted into the Awards for consideration as Gold, Silver or Bronze winners. It’s a process that continues to recognise the creative talents of journalists, writers, producers, performers and broadcasters, covering the wealth of UK radio output from speech and drama through to news, comedy and of course music. Reflecting the triumphs and developments of the current radio landscape, the Awards also aim to identify future leading practitioners and celebrate lifetime contributions
